When it rains in LA, I like to sing along, but not always to make it go away. There are moments when I want the rain to stay.
I've heard people say that it NEVER rains in Los Angeles. Having spent most of my life in LA, I sometimes felt that way too. During the times that I did see rainfall, it felt like a special occasion.
I created a playlist for said occasion that I call, "My Rainy Day Playlist." My initial criteria for this playlist was that all the songs had to have the word "rain" in them. I've expanded that restriction to include all types of weather and songs that make me feel a sense of transformation.
This video was taken on Saturday from behind the patio at my apartment.
1. "Come Clean" by Hilary Duff
This song reminds me of my truth journey, telling the truth can feel cleansing.
2. "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac
I don't want to believe that players only love me when they're playing, but it really does feel that way sometimes. Hearing this song usually leads to "Gypsy." I've been called a gypsy by a number of different people and am no longer in denial because sometimes I feel like I do have a gypsy soul.
3. "Sparks Fly" by Taylor Swift
I can't say I know the feeling of dropping everything to meet someone in the pouring rain, but that feeling sounds magical. I don't have a great story about making out in the rain that I can remember, at least not yet.
4. "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette
I don't believe all of the situations she uses to explain irony fit the definition. A black fly in your Chardonnay seems like it just kind of sucks. The good advice that you just didn't take; who takes good advice, like ever?! Some of her examples are ironic and some morbid. Irony can be a positive thing too because yes, life sometimes does have a funny way of helping us out.
5. "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain
No emotional explanation for this one. I just heard it today today and it had the word "rain" in it.
6. "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons
This one was added on Saturday because of the lighting and thunder during the rain.
7. "My Girl" by the Temptations
I would love for someone to dedicate this song to me, that goes for "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison too.
8. "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" by B. J. Thomas
9. "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adele
Set fire to the rain? Now that's what I call ironic.
10. "Africa" by Weezer
I personally don't think this version is overrated!
11. "Because of you" by 98 Degrees
I'd like to dedicate some of these lyrics to a number of people in my life, including myself! Especially, my son, he's definitely credited with being my sunshine after the rain, my cure against all the fear and pain. Although, I don't lose my mind when you're not around anymore because I know you are strong, determined, and mighty, baby boy! I mean, of course you are; I raised you. I can't wait to see you continue to blossom.
(I may continue to add to this list as I think of more.)
